SHEEPDOG TRIALS

Roundwood Sheepdog trials take place on the 1st of November in Baltynanima off the Lough Dan Road. Follow the directional signs on the day. Spectators are always welcome.

BEGINNERS BRIDGE LESSONS

Bridge Lessons for Absolute Beginners Monday Mornings in Roundwood Parish Hall from 10 am to 12 noon, with Rory Egan. This is a 10-week course suitable for people who wish to take up Bridge. We will take you through a step-by-step introduction to the great game of Bridge. We will teach you both Bidding and Play and then help you play some hands specially prepared for that subject under our supervision. A full set of notes will be provided for each lesson. You are very welcome to join us now, we’ll catch you up! Why not spread the word to relatives and friends to let them know what a great game this is? COMMUNITY COUNCIL AGM  

The Roundwood & District Community Council AGM will take place in the Roundwood Parish Hall on Monday the 13th of November at 8pm. All members of the community are most welcome.

RHS TALK  

Richard Nairn is an ecologist and writer living in Ashford.  He has published seven books, the latest of which is ‘Wild Waters’.   His talk will highlight Ireland’s rivers and lakes with a special focus on the Avonmore catchment which stretches from the Sally Gap to Arklow. He will be talking to the society on Tuesday 24th October in Roundwood Parish hall, all welcome. Refreshments will be served.

MASS OF REMEMBRANCE 

Parish of St. Laurence O’Toole, Roundwood and Moneystown:  Our Annual November Mass of Remembrance for those who funerals took place in our Churches in the past year will take place in Roundwood Church on Saturday 4th November at 7 pm, and in Glendalough Church on Sunday 5th November at 11.30 am

ART EXHIBITION & CONCERT 

There will be an exhibition of paintings, sculpture and wood turning in Calary Church starting at 7 pm on Friday 20th October, continuing between 11 am and 6 pm on Saturday 21st and between 12 noon and 5 pm on Sunday 22nd October. There will also be plants and country produce on sale between 11 am and 4 pm on Saturday 21st. 20% commission on all art sales will go to local charities.

To help launch this event, there will be a concert by Clare McCague (classical harp) and Catrina Scullion (soprano) starting at 8 pm on Friday 20th October. As it is opening the Art Exhibition, entry to the concert is free and there is no need to book. Just turn up and enjoy the evening.

LOTTO

Results of the lotto draw held on Sunday 15th October. There was no jackpot winner, the numbers drawn were 5, 6, 25 & 29. There were three match three winners. James Fanning, Lorcan Gaskin and Darcy Flynn. Next week’s jackpot will be €13,000.

ANNAMOE BOWLS

Indoor bowls is back in the Annamoe Centre on Tuesday nights at 8pm all are welcome.

Roundwood Men’s Shed: The shed is open on Tuesdays between 10 and 12 and is located at Pat Carr’s place in Knockraheen (A98AH02). Our agenda is wide and varied – a bit like ‘whatever you’re having yourself’. Mostly though, the shed is about listening and caring and sharing. Our meetings begin with some gentle exercises for those so inclined. But the tea and chat with cake and biscuits is an integral part of what we are all about.

MOBILE LIBRARY   

Wicklow County Council Mobile Library will be in Roundwood Village on Thursday 19th of October from 10am until 11.15am and also from 2.10pm until 4.30pm. Come along and join the library. It’s a free service and is a fantastic way to pick up any book that suits your reading interests.

 45 CARD GAME 

45 Card Game every Tuesday night in Moneystown Community Centre starting at 8pm. Teas served.  All are welcome.

Free digital skills course starting this Thursday 12th of October in the Brockagh Centre Laragh

MUSIC IN CALARY

Calary Church is delighted to once again host a Concert in aid of the work done by Sister Mary Killeen in Mukuru, Nairobi. This has always been a fantastic night and raises very important funding for the street children in Mukuru. This year, the music will be provided by Fionn O hAlmhain (bass and traditional musician) along with Luke Lally Maguire (piano) and Mossie Nolan (bouzouki) who will play and sing Lieder, Arias and traditional music. BRIDGE LESSONS 

The Contract Bridge Association of Ireland has embarked on a Bridge Lessons Initiative nationally, to get more new people playing Bridge and join Bridge clubs. Here in Wicklow, our own Rory Egan of Grand Master Bridge, a past resident of Roundwood and now currently living in Rathdrum, has agreed to do a course for Absolute Beginners in Roundwood Parish Hall every Monday morning starting on the 9th of October.

They are inviting anyone from Wicklow who is interested in cards, fun and great company, to consider taking up this great game of Bridge. To this point, Rory will be starting an introduction to Bridge course for absolute beginners on Monday Mornings in Roundwood: Said Rory “This is a 10-week course suitable for people who wish to take up Bridge. We will take people through a step-by-step introduction to the great game of Bridge.
