PLOUGHING SOCIETY
Roundwood Ploughing Society were extremely lucky with glorious weather and held their annual Ploughing match last Saturday the 22nd of February. Special thanks isextended to Paul Delamere, Eoin O’Toole and Judy O’Toole for providing the site, the Judges, Competitors and our many sponsors without whom we could not run this event and to whom we are very grateful to for their continued support.
Sincere thanks to Helen, Michael and the Staff of the Roundwood Inn for providing the beautiful meal for all those who ploughed on the day and Joe Kavanagh for the use of his premises for all our meetings during the year.
CHEF IRELAND 2025 JUNIOR CHEF OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Donal Byrne from Trooperstown, who was the overall winner of Chef Ireland Junior Chef of the Year, last week. Donal won 5 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze) in the event, at the Irish Culinary Championships in the RDS. He also won the FSPA Hygiene Award.
AGRICULTURAL SHOW
Roundwood Agricultural Show and Street Party will take place on Sunday the 4th of August 2025. A meeting to discuss ideas for this year’s Show will take place on Wednesday 26th of February in Roundwood Parish Hall at 8.15pm. Anyone with ideas or suggestions or who would like to help out with the organisation of the event are most welcome to attend.
HISTORICAL SOCIETY AGM
The Roundwood and District Historical Society will be holding their AGM on Tuesday the 25th February and 7.30 in Kavanagh’s pub. Attendees will be shown how to access the Irish Community Archive website, a platform to a wide variety of historical articles and pictures. All welcome. Come and make history together! The Roundwood and District Community Council are registered to administer the senior alert scheme which provides grants to elderly people towards the provision of personal alarms through the Senior Alert Scheme. The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of an emergency.
