MUSIC IN CALARY

The last concert in this year’s Music in Calary series will be held in Calary Church at 8 pm on Friday 6th  October, when the wonderful classical guitarist Redmond O’Toole will play Bach’s Cello Suite No 1 (arranged for guitar) together with works by Mertz, Albeniz, Tedesco, Ian Wilson and Domeniconi. BRIDGE FUNDRAISER

A Diamond Bridge Fundraiser for An Tochar Strictly for Maria Magee will be held in Roundwood Community Hall  on Sunday 15th October starting at 7pm, entry £10 including Raffle, no partner required. ACTIVE RETIREMENT

In conjunction with Uniquemedia Roundwood Active Retirement presents “Politics in Ireland”on the 13th October 2017 in Roundwood Parish Hall at7:30pm.  All Adults and young teenagers especially welcome.  The Facilitator on the night will be Gay Mitchell, (former Lord Mayor of Dublin and Government Minister)  This once off event is funded by The Older Persons’ Fund at The Community Foundation.  This is an intergenerational civic initiative lead by the Roundwood Active Retirement Group linking in with the younger generation to understand how the Political System works, to learn how to influence it and have our needs addressed. We want to develop our own capacity to effect change in issues that directly affect us. And we want to promote greater civic participation by the younger generation in our area. As grandparents we see that more could be done to encourage younger people to become more politically aware..

BINGO

Fun Bingo will take place on in the Annamoe Centre on Sunday 8th October from 3pm.  Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend.  €5 per book and great raffle prizes.  Come along and enjoy

PROGRESSIVE 45’S

Progressive 45 Card Game Sunday the 8th October in Roundwood Parish Hall at 7.30pm sharp in aid of Valerie Halligan’s strictly come dancing fundraising. All welcome excellent cash prizes with raffle and refreshments at the interval

SALE OF WORK

After a short break the annual SALE OF WORK is back again this year in Aras An Tochar on December 3rd from 12 – 4pm. All donations for the various stalls will be gratefully accepted and can be left with Maureen in the Parish Office between 9.30 and 1pm

HALLOWEEN CANDLE LIGHT WALK

A Halloween themed candle light walk will take place on Saturday 28th October from the Vartry Grounds Soccer club.  This promises to be a family fun event so get those costumes ready!!  Watch this space for more details

LUNCH CLUB

A reminder that the Active Retirement Lunch club will take place on Friday 6th October in Byrne & Woods at 1.30.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

The next Roundwood & District Community Council meeting will take place at 8:30pm on Monday 9th of October in the Parish Hall. All welcome

RUT  WATCH

Wicklow is home to a large population of wild deer. They are particularly impressive in autumn when they ‘rut’. Wicklow Mountains National Park staff will have telescopes set up on the Spinc walking trail in Glendalough between 11 am and 4 pm on Saturday 8th of October. Anyone walking on this route is welcome to stop by, view the deer through the telescopes and discuss the deer and their ecology. Participants are advised to visit to the Information Office (near the Upper Lake, Glendalough) to get directions to the telescopes before setting out. The Spinc walk takes approximately 3 hours. This is a family friendly event although the hike may be too long for young children. Please note, participants will not be escorted on the hike. Hiking boots and rain gear are recommended. Bring binoculars if you have them. All dogs must be kept on leads. This is a free event however please be aware that car park charges may apply in the Glendalough area.

YOUTH CLUB

A meeting for adults interested in setting up a youth club in the Roundwood area will take place in Roundwood Parish Hall at 8pm on Monday 9th of October at 8pm. All welcome

MASS OF THE ANGELS

Our Annual Mass of the Angels Remembrance will be on Saturday 7th  October at 6.00p.m in Roundwood Church.  This special Mass will be for the parents and families of babies who died before birth, at birth, or in infancy, and for those who died in early childhood, youth and young adulthood either in recent years or in the past. We extend a very warm welcome to all parents, families, relatives and friends who have suffered such a loss.

MATHS LESSONS

Rebecca Delamere will be running Maths classes for Secondary School students in Roundwood Parish Hall.  Classes will be available for 1st to 6th year students and are designed to focus on common areas that students struggle with.  Guaranteed small class sizes and places are limited.  For further information, please contact Rebecca on 0860650129 or RebeccaDelamereMathsLessons@outlook.ie.

WALKING CLUB

The Roundwood Whizzers Walking Group are back in action every Wednesday evening meeting at 7pm at the Coach House car park. Everyone welcome to walk at your own pace for approximately 1 hour in and around Roundwood village

002 BRIDGE CLUB.

In the Howell competition on Friday 15th September Rowena Brady and Noeleen Redmond took 1st place, Monica Brady and June Digby were 2nd and joint 3rd/4th were Paddy O Brien and Ger Lenihan  and Maura Gaskin and Bridie Nolan.   North/South winners on 22nd September were Noeleen Redmond and Margaret Bolger, 2nd Elizabeth Belton and Philomena Kenna and 3rd June Digby and Monica Brady.  Ger Lenihan, Paddy O Brien,  Seamus Kennedy and Maria Magee shared 1st./2nd for East/West whilst Jane Cronin and Gertie fee were 3rd.

LOTTO RESULTS

There was no winner of this week’s lotto. The numbers drawn were 2,, 11, 21 7 24.  There were nine match three winners. J Connelly, Helen Kinlan, Maureen Turner, C & M Brierton, P & M Doyle, M Flanagan, Josie Cahill, Tony Nugent & Mary Flanagan. Next week’s jackpot will be €15,400

IRISH MUSIC CLASSES

Learn traditional Irish music and dance with an award-winning Comhaltas branch (guitar, fiddle, flute, tin whistle and grúpa ceoil). Classes are held at 7 pm on Tuesday nights in St. Laurence O’Toole N.S., Roundwood – the first term is from September to January while the second term is from January to May. ROUNDWOOD & DISTRICT MENS SHED

It is First Anniversary time for the SHED – how time flies! We plan to hold our very first Annual General Meeting in the Parish Hall in Roundwood on Tuesday 10th October at 8 p.m. The venue and time will hopefully suit the maximum number of our members and all of you readers who may be interested in the SHED. We continue to meet on Tuesdays at Pat Carr’s place in Knockraheen from 10 a.m. onwards. Please feel free to come along and join in the fun.

DIAMOND BRIDGE CLUB.

Playing their cards right for North/South on Monday 11th September were Nancy O Brien and Gertie Fee, 2nd Maura Gaskin and Kay Plunkett, 3rd Seamus Kennedy and Catherine  Halligan.   East/West winners were Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien, 2nd John Loscher and Margaret Byrne, and 3rd Monica Brady and Bridie Nolan.  Monica Brady continued her winning form on Monday 18th September with partner Kay Plunkett, 2nd Mary Pierce and Margaret Byrne, and 3rd Ger Lenihan and Paddy O Brien.   East West victors were Maura Gaskin and Clare Sally, 2nd Marie Kavanagh and Triona Woodroofe and 3rd Teresa Leahy and Marian Davies.

MONEYSTOWN DANCE.

The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday 13th October from 9.30pm till 12.  Teas served, refreshments also available,  door prizes.  Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing,  jive, etc

2018 TOUR

A 3 star Algarve Coast & Country trip will take place on the 27th February, 2018 for seven nights which will include visits to Silves, Lagos, Sagres & Faro.  The cost will be €429 per person sharing.  This will include breakfast and dinner in the Hotel Da Aldeia, Albufeira and day excursions and a one 10kg bag.  A deposit of €200 must be paid before 1st November and all monies to be paid ten weeks prior to departure. MENS SHED

Men’s Shed: Just to remind you again, our SHED is located at Pat Carr’s place in Knockraheen and the members come together every Tuesday from 10 a.m. onwards. Behind every good man is a good woman so we ask you very special women out there to encourage the man or men in your life to go along to the SHED in Knockraheen. Transport will be arranged if this is a problem. We take this opportunity to say a very special thanks to the very helpful young ladies from the Roundwood and District Community Council (RDCC) who helped us in the filling out of the application forms and the successful securing of financial funding for the SHED in recent times. ROUNDWOOD DANCE

The next dance at Roundwood Parish Hall takes place on Friday 27th October with music by John Flood, Refreshments available on the night. Music by the.  All welcome. .

SET DANCING

Roundwood Set Dancing continues every Thursday night from 9pm til 11pm in Kavanagh’s Lounge, Roundwood.  Music this month with The O’Kane family. Admission remains at €5.  Beginners are always welcome along with anyone looking for a bit of exercise and a fun night out.
