Yesterday, Tuesday March 15th, 2016 was Proclamation Day. Across the country every school was encouraged to celebrate the day by remembering the events of 1916 and penning their Proclamation for a New Generation. Roundwood NS rose the challenge magnificently this morning with a moving reenactment of the Easter Rising by Dr Marten’s class, traditional music ably led by Ms Byrne, the reading of their thoughtful Proclamation, the raising of the Irish Flag by direct descendant of Thomas Francis Meagher and a rousing rendition of our National Anthem. The reenactment included fantastic models of the key buildings where the action took place during the Easter Rising and the walls of the PE Hall had beautifully illustrated and informative projects on various aspects of 1916. Finally in the school yard there was singing by the junior classes followed by Irish dancing under the expert guidance of Elizabeth Belton, with music provided by her talented husband, William. Principal Ms O’Brien, as always, MC’ed the event in her usual calm, professional manner making it a very memorial day for the children and their parents, guardians, grandparents and the wider community. The event was a great credit to all the teachers and support staff in Roundwood NS and of course the wonderful students therein. Comhghairdeas le gach duine
