SCHOOL REPORTERS
The Roundwood and District Community Council are organising a school re-union for anyone who went to Roundwood Old School on August 1st which forms part of the Roundwood Festival. Some folks are very shy about telling us about their school days! So we urgently need help please. Can you be a reporter to ask your Mummy, Daddy, Granny, Granddad, Aunty, Uncle, family friend or great grandparents some questions about where they went to school? If it’s not Roundwood Old School it doesn’t matter. You can write out their answers or record their answers on video or audio! Make sure you explain what you are doing and ask their permission please (you can show them this notice). We might display or play some of your reports at the Old School reunion in August. We may put some of your reports into the Time Capsule which will be placed at the Old School in Roundwood after the reunion which will be opened in 100 years’ time. We might also pass on the reports to the Roundwood & District Historical and Folklore Society as they are really interested in this information. You will be a historian – recording local history that the people will be looking at or listening to in hundreds of years. There are some sample questions on http://www.roundwood.ie/festival-2015/old-school-reporters/ but you can ask some of your own if you like. Please drop your report in whatever format into the box in the foyer of the Roundwood Parish Hall by Monday 27th of July. Everyone who puts in a report will be entered into a draw for a prize. Thank you.
OLD SCHOOL REUNION
The Roundwood & District Community Council are organising a Reunion at the Roundwood Old School on Saturday 1st August from 7.30pm. This is the last chance for all former pupils and teachers of the Old School to come and have a look around the school, which has recently been sold. In particular, we would like to welcome any past pupils and their families who are now living abroad to come back and share in this occasion, which will coincide with the Roundwood Festival (31st July to 2ndAugust). It promises to be a great social weekend in Roundwood village. If you attended the Old School in Roundwood, please consider contributing a short account (just a page or two) about your time at the school. We are gathering photos and other mementos from life at the old school so if you have any that we can borrow, scan and return for the occasion, it will be much appreciated. Please include your name and the start and end years from your time at school (or the decade if you prefer!). You can email your short account to info@roundwood.ie or please place handwritten accounts in an envelope and leave in to Maureen in the Parish Office. We plan to display the written accounts from teachers and pupils at the reunion on 1st August and during the ‘open school day’ on Sunday, 2nd August from 2pm – 5pm. Also, some or all of the documents will be included in a time capsule, along with other materials, which will be placed in the grounds of the school sometime after the reunion. We hope you can come from near and far to join us for this occasion. Please spread the word as we are eager to ensure all former pupils and teachers know of the event. Thank you
