KILMACANOGUE HISTORY SOCIETY
The GPO – 200 years of history. Stephen Ferguson is Assistant Secretary of An Post and curator of the GPO museum. He has written on various aspects of Post Office history and is the author of Business as Usual – GPO staff in 1916; The Irish Post Box-Silent servant and Symbol of the State ; and in 2014 The GPO-200 years of history. Stephen visited us in 2011 to speak on the Irish Post Box and subsequently was instrumental in helping us retain our unique functioning 1868 Victorian hexagonal Penfold postbox in the Rocky Valley. Stephen’s presentation will be delivered on time at 8.30pm on Tuesday 5th May in the Glenview Hotel, Glen of the Downs. Entry €3 (€2 for members) – all welcome. The Roundwood and District Community Council are registered to administer the senior alert scheme which provides grants to elderly people towards the provision of personal alarms. The personal alarm offers reassurance to allow independent living, safe in the knowledge that you can quickly be in contact with a family member or neighbour in the event of an emergency.
