Roundwood Notes – 7th of May 2014

BLESSING OF GRAVES

The blessing of the graves in Glendalough will take place on Friday 9th May at 8pm and in Brockagh on Friday 16th May at 8pm. There will be mass on both occasions in St. Kevin’s Church at 7pm.

MUSIC IN CALARY

The first concert of the 2014 series will take place at 8pm on Thursday 15 May when Sióga – Donna Gallagher (soprano), Rebecca Draisey-Collishaw (oboe) & Niamh Kinsella (keyboard) – will perform works by Beethoven, Bernstein, Liszt, Mozart, Schubert, Arnold Cooke and Michael Holohan. TEXT ALERT

Roundwood & District Community text alert is currently being set up. This is an updated form of Community Alert based on text messages from Roundwood Gardaí, relating to crime, theft or suspicious activity. There is a meeting on Monday 12th May at 7.30pm in the Old Schoolhouse for volunteers. All welcome.

FORESTRY MASS

A special mass to remember all deceased forestry staff will be celebrated in St. Kevin’s church, Glendalough on Saturday the 10th May at 12 noon. Afterwards there will be light refreshments and chat in the Brockagh Centre. All are welcome.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

Wicklow Active Retirement has invited Roundwood Active Retirement to a light lunch and entertainment in The Pastoral Centre in Wicklow on Wednesday the 21st May at 12pm. Roundwood are providing a free bus down. If you would like to travel down please let Betty 087 1239340 or Molly at 086 3291256 know ASAP.

BINGO

Fun Bingo will take place on Thursday the 8th May in the Parish Hall from 8pm – 10pm. Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend. €5 per book and great raffle prizes. Come along and enjoy.

Roundwood Tidy Towns are urgently seeking assistance. Do you care enough about Roundwood to donate just one hour of your time on Tuesday 13th of May? Every little helps so please meet at the Parish Hall at 7:30pm. Thank you.

TABLE QUIZ

The Roundwood and District Community Council are holding a fundraising table quiz in aid of the Roundwood-Spezet Twinning Programme on Friday 9th of May in Kavanagh’s Vartry House. The cost for a team of four will be €40 and the start time is 9pm. Your support would be much appreciated. Friday 2nd May saw Monica Brady and June Digby claim 1st place for North/South just ahead of new player Kitty Heslin and her partner Gaye McGettigan 3rd Jim McNamara and Rowena Brady whilst Margaret Bolger and Noeleen Redmond dropped from their regular 1st place to 4th. East/West victors were Paddy O’Brien and Ger Lenihan, Liz Belton and Marion Davis 2nd, Maura Gaskin and Bridie Nolan 3rd and Rachel Judd and Molly Byrne were 4th. Members please note End of Season prize presentation will be on Friday 16th May.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Track and Field: Calling all children between the ages of five and seventeen who are interested in representing the Roundwood, Moneystown, Laragh area in the Co, finals of track and field are asked to please come to Áras an Tochar on Wednesday May 7th at 5.45 for our local run-offs. There are many different events for all ages from running to jumping to ball throw and javelin. You do not need to be a member of an athletic club to take part. If you are interested please contact Ann Marah or Elizabeth Belton. Swimming: We also hope to enter in the Co finals of the swimming competition. Again we will have swim-offs for anybody interested in taking part. Please contact any member of the Community Games Committee for more information.
