Roundwood Notes – 31st of March 2014

ROUNDWOOD LOTTO WINNERS!

Congratulations to Kevin Brady, Laura Bouè & J. Doyle who shared the jackpot of €19,400 in last weeks draw.  The numbers drawn were 5, 9, 18 & 20.  There were four match three winners, Marian Molloy, Betty Kenny, James O’Dea & Emily Morris.  Next weeks jackpot will be €5,000.

HOME PRODUCERS MARKET

Roundwood Home Producers Market will be re-opening in Roundwood Parish Hall on next Sunday, 6th April from 12noon – 5p.m every Sunday.  Come for your home baking, jams, crafts, vegetables, plants, etc.  New members always welcome

LADIES GOLF LESSONS

SPECIAL MASS

If you, your family, a relative or friend or neighbour are suffering from an illness, or are troubled in mind or body, we invite you to join us at our Special Mass on Monday of Holy Week (April 14th) at 7pm in Roundwood Church.  At this Mass we will have special prayers for the sick, and for those wishing to avail of it, there will be anointing with oils

DERRALOSSARY SPRING CLEAN

The United Friends of Derralossary are organising a clean up at Derralossary Church and Graveyard on Saturday 12th of April from 10am to 4pm. Please bring along willing hands and/or a strimmer, grass mower, shears, slashhook or hoe if available to you! Family and friends of those buried in Derralossary are particularly welcome.

BADMINTON

Morning Badminton continues every Tuesday from 9.30 until 11am for anyone who would like to join us. Beginners are always welcome as are improvers and those who just want to play! Congratulations to all those who took part in the Wicklow championships, the finals of which were held last sat night in Roundwood and the triumphant morning players were Marion, Gill, Mary, Paddy and Ger. Hard to believe 2 years ago some of these had never stood on a badminton court let alone reach a final so well done to all of you

ATHLETICS

The next round of the Juvenile Short Cross Country League takes place on Friday 4th April in Aughrim GAA Grounds.  Races will be held for ages 7 to 14 years.  Please by there at 6.00 pm to get warmed up and get your number.  It is important to text or ring Aileen (087 2071703), Anita (086 8756175) or Anne (087 2861781) in advance if you wish to take part at this event as the paperwork has to be done in advance.  Also no training will take place in Roundwood on the 4th as we will all be in Aughrim.  As usual bring warm clothes and a drink of water.  Wear a hat and gloves and don’t forget your club singlet.

Set dancing in Kavanagh’s lounge every thursday night with music this week by CDs and by Michael and Brian for the remainder of the month.  Lessons before hand at 8.30 with session from 9pm until 11pm. Love if you could join us on the dance floor for a night of fun n lively banter

HUMPTY DUMPTY PLAY GROUP

The Cuidiu Humpty Dumpty Playgroup meets every Wednesday from 10 – 11.30 am in the Parish Hall.  All pre-school children are welcome.  Bring along your Parent or Minder & they can have tea and a chat while you play!

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION

The ‘Autumn through Local Eyes’ Photography Exhibition by those who recently took part in the Kildare Wicklow Education and Training Board funded beginners digital camera course will officially open at 7:30pm on Friday 4th of April in Roundwood Parish Hall and Centre. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served. Should you miss the official opening; the exhibition will be open for viewing on Saturday the 5th of April from 3pm to 8pm and Sunday the 6th of April from 12 noon to 5pm. All welcome.

There will be two day trips, a tour of Semple Staduim and Holy Cross Abbey on 3rd May leaving Roundwood at 8a.m. at a cost of €65 per person and a trip to Suir Valley railway line between Waterford and Dungarvan and Garden Bord Bia., The Arboretum which has lovely plants and shrubs which will take place on Saturday 5th July at a cost of €65 per person.  Tea, scones and evening meal and bus included in the price, leaving at 9a.m.  Contact 0404 45276 before 1st April.  A three night trip to Iceland going on 23rd October.  Total cost €599.  Deposit of €200 to be paid before 1st July.  All enquiries to 0404 45276

All Ireland Glory!!! Congratulations to Eve Leacy who won the silver medal in the under 12 High Jump at the All-Ireland Indoor Championships in Athlone at the weekend. What a fantastic performance!  Also congratulations to Rebecca Molloy and Sean Leacey who were placed 5th and 6th respectively in the under 13 High Jump, well done on achieving such a high standard in this All-Ireland Championship.  Well done to club coaches Michael Heatley who competed in the 50km Wicklow Way Ultra yesterday and Brendan Lawlor who did the 25km Wicklow Way Trail.

WHIST

The results of the whist is as follows-  Top Score: Tom McHugh; First Gent: Ann Wolohan; Second Gent: Richie Cullen; Top Lady: Patricia Byrne; Second Lady: May Kenna; First Half: Maura McHugh; Second Half: Paddy O’Brien; Lowest Score: Kitty Kennedy & Longest Sitting: Kay Plunkett;  Raffle prizes were won by Paddy O’Brien, Tom McHugh, Ann Pierce, Mary Cullen & Ann Wolohan.  The next whist will be on Wednesday 2nd April 2014.

Kilmacanogue History Society will Dermot Cranny will present an illustrated talk reviewing the concept and structure of the Medieval Guilds System and relate the guilds to their modern equivalents in the Glenview Hotel on Tuesday 1st April, 2014.  Dermot Cranny served a recognized apprenticeship and is a qualified Craftsman who also holds a Masters Degree in Education.  Together with his wife Ann they are hardworking valued members of our Society. TABLE QUIZ

Ballinastoe Tug of War club is holding a table quiz in The Vartry House Pub (Kavanaghs), Roundwood on Saturday 22nd March to raise money for the club.  The quiz starts at 8.30pm and all are welcome.  Your support would be greatly appreciated.

LADIES GOLF LESSONS

The starting date for ladies golf lessons which will be held at Djouce Golf Club is Tuesday April 1st 2014. Lessons will be held on Tuesday afternoons from 3pm to 4pm and from 4pm to 5pm. There will be a max number of 12 ladies per group and the course will run for 4 weeks.  The course is suitable for all levels from beginners to advanced. Cost is €50 per person. TEXT ALERT SCHEME

A Public Meeting is to be held at Roundwood Parish Hall on Wednesday 19th March 2014 at 8pm in relation to setting up a Community Text Alert Scheme in the Roundwood Area. Any persons interested in taking part or participating in this scheme are invited to attend. Gda Bernard Cloney will provide a presentation on the Text Alert Scheme and local Gardai will also be in attendance. Text Alert is designed to facilitate immediate communication from An Garda Siochana to the public. An Garda Siochana will provide information on crime prevention, suspicious persons & vehicles by Text to a registered community contact. The community contact will in turn forward the information to all members of the Text Alert Group.

PURE MILE MEETING

The mile this year stretches from Roundwood Health Centre to the Derralossary Church Lane on the Annamoe Road. Well done to all the volunteers for their great work  on the hedge cutting and litter picks. The next meeting will take place in Aras an Tochar on Wednesday 19th of March at 7pm.
